Currently working as a Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon at Manipal Hospital , Bangalore.

He did his M.B.B.S. and Masters degree in orthopedics from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University in 1979 (world's third biggest University!). He then worked as Senior Registrar in Orthopaedics at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondichery for three years. India when there were only four Central Institutes attracting students from all over India and Dr. Chakravarty trained in two of them!

In addition to his Master of Orthopedic Surgery from Banaras Hindu University, he has passed the National Board Examination of India, both in Orthopedics and also Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 1983 he joined Kasturba Medical College, Manipal as a lecturer. He was an Associate Professor when he was selected as the first Overseas Registrar at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, United Kingdom in 1989. After two years he started his work as a locum consultant in Orthopaedics at the same hospital till 1994. He returned to India to his earlier job and took a transfer to Manipal Hospital, Bangalore as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. Dr. Chakravarty goes to the Royal Cornwall Hospital every year to clear joint replacement waiting list backlog. The hospital faithfully renews his work permit every year for the last ten years.

Dr. Chakravarty conducts joint replacement clinics every month in Calcutta and Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has lectured in many joint replacement meets in India and has read and published papers nationally and internationally.

He is Specialist in Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine.Performed more than 300 Hip Resurfacing operations, 550 Total Hip Replacements, 500 Total Knee Replacements.Has operated on patients from all over India, UK, Nepal, France, Africa, Pakistan, Muscat, Dubai, Canada, USA, Australia & Singapore.
